Why you might be missing out on a rare, affordable red in Australia

The red wine is on the rise in Australia, but for many, it’s not a cheap purchase.
There are several reasons why this red is so expensive, but one of the biggest is the scarcity of wine, and a lack of local producers to sell it to.
According to WineAustralia, there are only seven wine producers in Australia.
That means that only a handful of wine is actually available to buy in Australia for this price.
“The average Australian wine is only sold at wine festivals, in grocery stores and on supermarket shelves,” WineAustralia said in its 2016 wine industry guide.
Wine festivals sell a limited number of bottles, while grocery stores are a bit less generous.
“As a result, it is very rare to find a single bottle of red wine from the most famous wineries of Australia,” Wine Australia’s 2017 Wine Guide said.
The lack of a single winery makes it difficult for many Australian wineries to get the best wine prices, WineAustralia explained.
In 2016, Wine Australia recommended the purchase of at least 1,000 bottles of wine for any wine lover.
But as of March 2019, that number had dropped to just over 900 bottles.
With that number down to only 300 bottles, many Australians are missing out.
“We’re seeing fewer and fewer bottles of red out there in the market, so there’s less to go around,” wine consultant and author of Wine Australia Guide Andrew Davies told ABC News.
“It’s not that Australian wine producers are getting priced out of the market but the lack of availability of wine in Australia is putting some of our best wine drinkers out of business.”

Wine Australia said that the shortage of local wineries meant that there were few places to buy local wine, meaning that most Australian wine consumers have to go to the big cities to find it.
“There’s not really any competition in terms of where to buy wine in the Australian market, and therefore people are finding themselves with less choice of where they’re going to drink their wine,” Davies said.
“We see a huge gap between the prices that Australian consumers are paying and the prices offered by wine festivals and grocery stores, so it’s really not the wine that they are looking for when they’re shopping for wine.”
It’s difficult for the average Australian consumer to find good quality wine in stores, Davies explained.
“Many people are going to a wine festival to drink some good quality red wine and get some tips and tips on what to expect from their wine, which is the main focus of the Australian wine festival,” Davies explained, adding that it’s difficult to get good prices when you don’t know what to look for.
The lack in local producers means that there’s a significant number of Australian winemakers that have not been able to sell their wines to the mainstream market, Davies said, adding the gap between what’s offered and what’s available is causing a lot of confusion among consumers.
Despite the shortage, some wine aficionados still love the wine.
While the quality of Australian wines is often high, the price is still pretty affordable, WineAmerica told ABCNews.com.au.
However, the difference in prices between the major wineries is what makes wine enthusiasts fall in love with Australian wines, Wine America said.
It’s a trend that has continued into the 21st century.
In 2017, Wine USA’s Wine Atlas found that Australian winery prices were lower than those in New Zealand, but higher than those of France and the US.
For many people, this is the only way to buy good quality Australian wine, WineUSA said.
It is estimated that Australians spend $5,000 to $8,000 per year on wine, but WineAmerica estimated that a single wine is worth between $3,000 and $4,000.
Even with the limited availability of Australian wine this year, WineAsia found that a bottle of Australian red wine cost just under $30 on average.
