When the prison red wine comes in: Prisoners in California are getting a fresh batch of prison red wines for their cell mates

Prisoners serving life sentences in California may have to wait until the end of the year to get their prison reds.
The state is introducing a pilot program that will allow prisoners to get the wines that go into their prison cans as part of a program that began last year.
Prisoners will also be able to get wine through a new online wine buying service called WineBuy.
California’s wine industry is ailing, and California’s prison system is among the worst in the country.
Many of the state’s prison inmates are serving life without parole sentences, which have been met with harsh conditions in some of the harshest prisons in the nation.
The prison system has also been the site of numerous incidents of inmate violence.
Last year, inmates in the Florence, California, prison broke into a cell, stole some wine and threatened to kill guards.
They were arrested and convicted of armed robbery.
